UADD
Be will be off to work in Japan on Thursday. Two whole years!
Do I envy Be? If it was a few years ago, I might, but probably not now. I’ve become a bit disillusioned with the country, but don’t get me wrong; I still like it. It’s just that working there will be very different from travelling, visiting or maybe even studying there.
I first met Be in primary school, but we only got to know each other better after the JC ‘first 3 months’ when we ended up in the same class. What broke the ice was...J-pop! At first, I guess we were a bit awkward, but to our delight we found that we had a common interest in J-pop and it all started from there. Ok, I didn’t like SMAP but I knew who they were, while Be had also heard of my idols at that time, so we had a good time rambling on about each other’s favourite stars.
Subsequently Be outgrew the pop idolatry stuff, and though I am still very much a music fan (despite having moved on to other ‘targets’), the seeds of friendship had already been sowed. Of course we talk about other stuff now but I have not ceased to be amazed by Be’s creative and interesting vocabulary. Be made popular among us phrases like ‘divine intervention’, ‘UADD’ (short for Upper-Arm Dingle-Dangle, referring to un-toned arm muscles!!), and invented new uses for words like ‘chiong’ (dash) and ‘nab’. I also remember ‘DEAF’ and ‘BEEF’! (Haha, only Be will know what they refer to!) Maybe I will now send an email to the relevant parties to read this!
Have a good trip, Be, and hope you manage to fatten your wallet a bit while you are there! No, on a more serious note, I hope your experiences there will be fulfilling and will add more colours to your life. And now I have reasons to visit Japan again!

hehe, glad u had a good laugh! Nope, unlike UADD, DEAF and BEEF are quite different. They aren't 'words' in that sense, but something more personal. Not sure whether Be will appreciate me making that public so I'll keep it to myself for the time being!
A lot of people asked me why I didn't stay in Japan and work. I guess I just didn't make the effort to look hard enough cause working there is a bit different from leisure, even if you loved the place. I wasn't sure if I can get by working in that kind of environment. I'm not saying that I'm equally disillusioned as cy, but I just saw the practicalities. That being said, I do think that it's worth trying to work there for a couple of years if you have the opportunity. Do I envy Be? I would three years ago, no longer now. --teng
even though you're not working abroad, you seem to be getting chances to travel around. that's good too...
